The McCully Creek Restoration Initiative is a collaborative multi-year, Gitksan-led project to restore access, connectivity, and quality of salmon habitat using low-tech, process-based restoration techniques paired with environmental monitoring and evaluation methods. Two separate avulsion events have drastically changed important salmon rearing habitats within McCully Creek, including lower flow levels, more barriers and lower in-stream complexity essential for salmon, and could be causing declines in salmon diversity and abundance. The initiative focuses on addressing these challenges with a mix of methods including bank stabilization, gravel bar reclamation, and fish salvage.
